Youth

The CoEJ Youth Desk aims to create a dynamic and interdependent circuit of thriving youth groups, willing to serve for the common good of the Khoja community at large. The Youth Desk (YD) will endeavour to facilitate in the communication and growth of individual youth bodies, helping to stimulate a structure whereby different youth bodies can learn from each other's skills, practices and experiences. The YD will also aim to provide courses for the youth that will equip them with the necessary tools to enhance their potential in coping with modern day challenges. An example can be seem with the launch of the Leadership Developments course, aimed at developing the capacity of the youth and young professionals within the community. It is felt that a continuation of such programmes will definitely inspire and promote future leaders from within our community.

CoEJ_Annual_Conference_19_Nov_2011_-_PosterLiving in an age of a globalised world, we hear news of an Earth wrought with social and political injustices.  How as Muslims can we consolidate our freewill and responsibility with elevating the suffering of those oppressed around us?  What is it that we can do to cause effective change in both the political and social spheres to ensure justice?

How do we affect society through our actions and perceptions?  How can we shape ourselves to create a united and harmonious society?  And how should we strive for and achieve a global utopia?

YC1Life often feels like its going faster and faster, with more responsibilities in our work, university, family and social lives, and seemingly less time to fulfil them all. As 2010 drew to a close a one-day conference on the theme “Evaluating the equilibrium” was held in Milton Keynes by the Council of European Jamaat (COEJ). Young Muslims men and women from several cities travelled early on the bank holiday morning of 27th December to explore a series of topics related to implementing our Islamic values in our everyday life.

The group of delegates was a healthy mixture of young professionals, and students and the opening address by Mudassar Ahmad on our identity set the tone for the rest of the day with a key observation: that in the 21st century it seems much of our identity as Muslims, Asians, young people or any other social grouping is often being defined externally by the global media, rather than  by our communities as it should be.

Youth

Youth_Conference_2010In the constant rat race of the western world we live in, it can often be difficult to take some time out and reflect on the values that are important to us. Are we applying these values in our daily work lives? Do we present different values at university? And where do we draw the line?

The CoEJ Youth Conference 2010 is entitled “Evaluating the Equilibrium” and aims to explore our values and how we can consolidate the different aspects of our lives – family, work/uni, social and spiritual -  with the values that are important to us, and  taught to us by Islam.

The day is filled with interactive workshops aiming to give you the tools to evaluate and change the equilibrium in your life.
